Our Green Credentials

Green CredsIn the vineyard

To work with producers who share our beliefs about these issues, increase our organic and biodynamic wine range further, and also support producers who have implemented other winemaking and viticultural initiatives, such as ISO 14000, that promote sustainability.

Packaging

We look for innovative solutions as to how we package our wines. To build on our new range of PET bottled wines (that weigh just 17% of a normal glass bottle), and to bottle at least 20% of our wine in lightweight glass (of which 50% is recycled).

In 2010 we achieved our goal of putting over 50% of the UK bottled wines into lightweight bottles. Our new, leaner bottles weigh 404g and a featherweight 356g, compared to 460g previously. This new initiative will give us a potential annual glass saving of 195,515kg this year or the equivalent of 549,201 fewer bottles!

Bibendum is a member of the GlassRite Steering Committee. GlassRite is a project supported by the governmental recycling advocate Waste Resources Action Programme (WRAP) working with industry partners to encourage the use of lighter weight glass wine bottles in the UK and at source, and to increase the use of recycled content in green glass bottles manufactured in the UK by promoting the bulk importation of wine into the UK.

Logistics

From vine to table we look for the most efficient ways of transporting our products which starts by using low impact means such as shipping, continues with a super efficient supply chain, reducing handling as much as possible and finishes with delivery by an award winning Green fleet which have electric vehicles and the abilty to convert old cooking oil in to biofuel.
